It really gives a wonderful view of the Islamic world at the time. Though the ending felt a little rushed, with everything coming to a climax in the last chapter, it was very satisfying. Yet, at the same time, they will marvel at the authenticity of voice and the tenacity of spirit in this memoir. You'll say "I know how I could get that look." Then you'll get even more ideas of your own, and so on.
This is unique and valuable material, presented in an engaging way. Just beginning to pray? Perfect. Thanks for writing a great series. Told in typical Elliott fashion. It is definitely a keeper-
The orginial version (1973) has lots of "shocking" pictures, the updated version (1992) has a wonderful review by Stewart Udall with a 20 year follow-up on the families from the original, some of whom developed cancer.
